My favorite project on Spider-Noir was designing mastheads and layouts for historic front pages from the late 1800's and early 1900's. Inventing how the masthead might have evolved into the one we see on the 1930's Daily Bugle was great fun to design.

Set Decoration wanted to feature several historic Daily Bugle front pages in the newspaper office. I designed these as my allotted budget time was running low. For these two late 1800's issues I completed the basic layouts and my colleague Steve Samenen finished them, adding all the details for the surrounding articles (which is a lot of work!). I had free reign to decide what stories to use and sourced all of the vintage engravings used here. This was an incredibly fun project to work on.

This masthead for the early 1900's up to the end of WWI showed how the next generation of the Daily Bugle takes a big step towards a simpler design while not losing its roots in the previous century.

I had just begun the McKinley issue when the budget axe fell and I had to step away. Steve Samenen designed this layout. The Daily Bugle on the right was the first of the newspaper props I designed upon joining the show using the template and masthead created by Steve.

Another Daily Bugle I laid out covering the Mayor's race along with a Hudson for Mayor campaign poster
